Eve’s Needles is a fast-growing, architectural cactus from the high-altitude Andes that commands attention with its peculiar, upright form. Unlike most cacti that appear "bare," this species features elongated, cylindrical stems adorned with fleshy, awl-shaped rudimentary leaves that resemble soft green spikes. These unique leaves eventually drop as the plant matures, revealing the sharp, pale yellow spines hidden at their base. Reaching heights of up to 13 feet (4 m) in its native habitat, it creates a striking silhouette in xeriscapes. It is prized by collectors for its prehistoric appearance and its ability to produce vibrant, coppery-red flowers when grown in full sun and well-drained, mineral-rich soil.
