The Red Yucca is a quintessential, low-maintenance succulent prized for its architectural grass-like foliage and long-lasting floral display. Despite its common name, it is a "false yucca" that lacks the sharp, dangerous terminal spines of true yuccas, making it a safer choice for high-traffic areas. It forms a dense, fountain-like clump of arching, leathery green leaves characterized by unique, fraying white fibers along the margins. From late spring through autumn, it produces spectacular, wand-like stalks that can reach up to 5 feet (1.5 m) tall, bearing tubular coral or bright red flowers that are highly attractive to hummingbirds. Extremely cold-hardy and drought-tolerant, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, making it a staple for modern xeriscapes.
